There is a stretch of sand on the French Riviera that needs no introduction. Pampelonne beach, the five-kilometre crescent that curves from St Tropez towards Cap Camarat, is home to every kind of beach club and hosts A-list celebrities from all over the world. SALTO is the newest name to join the shoreline, and it feels like a breath of fresh air on a coastline that sometimes takes itself too seriously.

The setting: Cap Camarat end of Pampelonne

The beach beds are located toward the Cap Camarat end, which means the beach is quiet and you can enjoy the full vista of Pampelonne without interruption. I love the aesthetic - retro-looking umbrellas that feel straight out of a Slim Aarons photograph. You can choose from a double bed at €115 per day or a single at €50 per day, and both come with complimentary towels, the softest pillows and a woven basket to store your belongings.

The staff are absolutely incredible - so attentive, fun but never smothering. You can sit up at the beach bar for drinks and snacks or have everything delivered straight to your bed. We ordered two of their frozen cocktails which hit the spot and provided the best kind of cool-down from a 35-degree day.

The atmosphere: relaxed, refined and a little different

The atmosphere is not like what you normally see on Pampelonne. It is extremely welcoming, laid-back and relaxed, yet still elevated, refined and well-presented without ever feeling forced. They usually have live singers or DJs adding to the mood.

You can order to your beach bed or eat in the restaurant where your feet remain in the sand, under the shade of magnificent sail-like covers. It is the kind of setup that makes you want to stay all day rather than just stop by for lunch.

The food: Italian-Korean heritage on a plate

The husband-and-wife kitchen duo take flavour inspiration from their Italian and Korean heritage, curating a delicious menu filled with the freshest seafood, a crudo bar and Mediterranean pastas. They also do meat, of course, so there is a huge variety for everyone.

The food was spectacular from the plating - works of art, so refined yet portioned well and made with the freshest produce - through to the flavour. There are both classic and traditional combinations, which meant there was breadth for everyone in our group.

The drinks: worth coming back for

The drinks selection was just as memorable. Their tropical twist on a classic spritz levels up an Aperol spritz with burnt pineapple wine - so refreshing and delicious that we came back the following day with my family for drinks alone so they could get a glimpse of what this place had to offer.

The people who make it

We were invited by Sharon, the venue host manager, who was amazing. She helped us with the full SALTO day experience, from booking sun beds and restaurant bookings to talking us through the food choices, and she was a genuinely welcoming energy to have at the venue.
